Moonlight Tears

Prologue

A full moon glowing brightly in the starry night sky meant many things—nocturnal animals were awake from their morning and afternoon nap, fireflies and other night insects crawls out from their hiding grounds, stars twinkles in the sky with such luminescence, but most of all…two werehogs was in a cave taking care of their young.
A blue werehog was watching his infant baby werepups suckle the milk from him while his mate, which is a black werehog with red streaks, watched his lover happily.

But you see, these two werehogs were never these beasts, in fact, they were two normal hedgehogs like most Mobians were—unfortunately, a mishap in Eggman laser cannon caused the two werehogs to be stuck as beasts permanently. Now it has been 3 years since the two beasts left the city and went into this cave their raise their own kids, they new from the start that if anyone found out about their love, madness would occur!

Anyways, the two young pups that they were raising was a small blue pup, a black pup with orange streaks and a another blue pup with black hair and streaks—all of them could not open their eyes just yet, but hey loved to crawl about as well as sniff many interesting things. However, at this time of night, there were always some hunters that would try to find unusual things to hunt, since it is Eggman's law.

During those two years of Shadow and Sonic disappearance, Eggman was able to successfully conquer the place and turn it into his own evil empire! Some were enslaved, most joined him, and others that disobeyed were locked in his dark cells to rot. And the worst part was that everyone blamed Sonic and Shadow for the cause of their misery and suffering.

"Shh…I think I heard something over here." One of the hunters said. "Stay quiet," the second hunter said, "We don't wanna scare them off."

Shadow growled and was going to attack the hunters himself, but Sonic stopped him and shook his head—the black beast sighed and grabbed two of his pups (while Sonic grabbed the remaining one) and quietly left through the back of the cave; they knew that they weren't safe here anymore, and they didn't want any harm done to their kids. Anyways, as they were quietly walking about, their blue pup made a loud yip, causing the hunters to turn at their direction!

Shadow and Sonic now picked up the pace as the hunters hollered and cheered while trying to aim their guns at them! The two beasts panted as they passed every tree and bush and other obstacles that stood in their way, but what made them halt to stop was when they saw a large highway in front of them—now things were getting dangerous…should they cross and might get hit by a fast moving vehicle or get shot by the hunters?

"Oooh! We got them now!" the first hunter hollered. "Get ready men and don't miss!" the third hunter shouted.

With no choice left, Shadow and Sonic looked left and right as they began to quickly cross the highway—cars would honk and swerve, causing most drivers to look back at what they almost hit. The hunters stopped and watched the beasts cross to the other side—they growled in frustration while Sonic and Shadow cheered in victory, but their victory soon turned sour as the blue blur saw one of the pups in the middle of the highway!

Sonic immediately ran into the highway and headed towards his child while Shadow barked for Sonic to come back! The blue blur refused to turn around until his child was safe and sound—and once the blue beast grabbed his pup, the hunters immediately aimed at him while Sonic's ears perked up to hear the sound of guns clicking. It was as if everything began to go in slow motion, but Sonic knew that he had to make this sacrifice…he couldn't let his child get killed—and as Sonic threw the pup into Shadow's arms and gave one last glance at it lover…

BANG! "RUFF!" Shadow howled. "Yeah! We got him!" the hunters cheered.

Tears dripped down Shadow's muzzle as he watched his lover fall down to the cold cement floor as blood oozed from his chest—the black beast couldn't believe it…his lover was gone…after all of that, his only love was dead. Shadow sobbed as he picked up his pups and began to run deep into the forest—never looking back at that horrific scene.

"Hey! That one is getting away!" one of the hunters said. "Let it go," the fourth hunter said, "Let's just take this one back to the boss and besides; I have a feeling that the beast will be back."
